Hate to bring an old post back from the dead, but does anyone know if there were any type of manifest for these vessels, perhaps, also a passenger list?

Terry had mentioned Armstrong's book but I didn't realize it had the manifest and such. Thanks! Going to go look for it now.

Several years ago the late (and great) Peg-Leg and I had become pretty good friends. During a phone chat he told me that he and a buddy took a row boat out in shallow water near the Cape security zone one night and brought several silver bars back to shore where they had a wheel barrow, they were met by security, they were relieved of their silver and promptly placed in jail for the night.

You hear all kinds of stories but the sad part is that very few of them can be verified. However, some can be, so you just never know what might still remain. It's a fascinating period and the coast in question has a lot of mystery and history.

No doubt that the Indians looted from the many wrecks/survivors along the coast as this is well documented, and it appears that this activity continued for about a 100 years, from say the early/mid 1500's to the mid/late 1600's. Question is, just exactly how many did they loot and how much of it was actually ever recovered? Their are accounts of presents, some recoveries, and even some trading, but for the most part this only represents a fragment of what appears to have been taken.

I was not aware that Native American salvage of a Spanish treasure fleet in present day South Carolina was well documented.

Maybe not in south Carolina.....but further south it was pretty common.
