We set a small camp at the entrance to the catacombs and cooked ourselves a small meal. The guides all left that night and headed back to the village. We were all very nervous about lie ahead? Tomorrow we will be rich Carlos said? I think we have much work ahead of us before that happens Shawn commented .We went to sleep early that night but we didn?t really sleep there was to much anticipation when morning did come we all eat a small breakfast. After breakfast we all got ready for the adventure which was ahead of us. We took out the flashlights armed ourselves with the weapons we had said goodbye to the guides and took what we needed for the trip inside and left the rest at the entrance.

Hoping we would see it again. We all entered the tunnel very slowly the Captain taking up the lead. The wind slowly howled through it and it was very damp. You could here drip drip drip from the water inside as we walked deeper and deeper into the unknown. Once we got inside you could see passages headed off in all different directions we kept going straight? I wonder where the gold is? In the manuscript the priest said it was in the tunnels under the main temple? Carlos said Lets hope this passage takes us to the main temple Shawn commented? We walked through the muggy tunnels across stone floors. Our footsteps echoing around us.

In places you could see the remains of old Payan glyphs on the walls. There was couple of places where the floor was flooded and we had to wade through dark murky water up to our waists. Finally we came around a corner and a shaft of light appeared from up above. We walked for several minutes and came to a flight of huge stone stairs ,that went up towards the light. We are here Carlos said we must hurry? I think it?s a good idea we take it slow Carlos I said. The Captain walked up the stairs towards the light his AK47 in hand. We all followed slowly behind him my heart was in my throat. We all immerged inside a small room that was one of temples of Ciudad Blanca there was no one around.

The Captain walked over to the doorway slowly peaking around the corner? It looks clear? he said?. We all walked out and stood on the edge of the temple . Across from us was huge white temple larger than any I had ever seen including the one at Chitzen Itza in Mexico. There was a large courtyard that was covered in old statutes and several smaller crumbling temples that where solid white as well. The city looked huge in size.

? I guess there is no more question about which ones the main temple Carlos said his gold lust getting the better of him? he started to run down the stairs of the temple, down into the Court Yard.? Carlos stop? the Captain yelled but he kept running ?Carlos don?t be an idiot I yelled you don?t know what?s out there! ? Then it happened, a spray of gunfire from the surrounding jungle ripping into the rock around Carlos, sending a spray of white dust into the air as the bullets tore into the temple steps around him.

They no we are here? the Captains said ?firing his AK47 into the jungle? Carlos was not hit and he got up and ran across the courtyard of the ancient city, bullets wising by his head as he ran. He made it to the steps of the main temple and drew his gun hiding behind a large ancient statue. ?Look ?Terry said pointing across to the jungle?. Where ten Payan Indians stood dressed in war paint and carrying modern machine guns. They walked out into the courtyard towards Carlos? who blasted at them with his 38 several of his shots hit there targets as two of the Payas feel to the ground with a bloody thud.? Over there Shawn said pointing to the other side of the city where more Payan Indians walked out of the jungle? Carlos started running up the steps of the main temple when four Paya emerged from the top in front of him? He is a dead man the Captain said? Back into the tunnel we must get out of here but as we turned to leave four Paya came out from the tunnel behind us.

I fired a couple of shots at them hitting one in the head he dropped to the temple floor blood leaking from his head. The remaining three then opened fire one of the shots tore into Terry?s chest sending him screaming to his death over the side of the temple? I dove to the temple floor as did Shawn when they started firing. The Captain yelled something in Spanish as he saw what they did to Terry and opened fire tearing the Payan to bloody pieces with his bullets
? Back into the tunnel now ordered the Captain.? What about Carlos" I yelled. "He is a dead man? the Captain replied took one last look at Carlos who was on his knees with a knife to his throat.

I fired across at the Paya wielding the knife the shot was dead on and the Payan feel down the steps in a bloody pulp as he tumbled? The other Payas opened fire on us bullet ripped inside the temple spraying us with more white dust we quickly made are way back inside the tunnel We ran as fast as we could down the tunnel But it was not long before the passage in front of us was blocked by more oncoming Paya.

The Captain opened fire on them with his AK47 his bullets tearing into there flesh and killing them instantly? The Colonel is right we will die if we stay we must get out of here? The Captain yelled. Shawn and I agreed? We where going down the passage when six more Paya appeared machine guns blazing? We had no choice but to take a different passage. We ran down it until it became flooded with water. We walked through the water which was up to are necks The Paya where not right behind us we got to the other side and around a corner. There where more stairs going up into the light .This way the Captain said walking up the stairs slowly but just when he was about to get to the top three more Paya appeared. They pointed there AK47s right in the face of the Captain who had no choice but to place his gun on the ground in surrender the other Paya appeared behind us. ? Shawn and I threw down are guns? The Paya took us out of the temple and across the courtyard of the ancient city. They talked among themselves we had no idea what was being said we where all too terrified to speak. They escorted us across the courtyard to the main temple.

Where we where brought to the top of the temple where Carlos was last scene. They took us into the temple and down a flight of stairs back into the catacombs we walked for several minutes before coming into a large room where Carlos was tied to a large stone slab? Captain you are alive he said you must save me? he yelled..

The Paya then tied are hands behind our backs and left us standing there. One of them who looked like a there leader walked up to Carlos and put his hands on his cheeks and forced him to stick out his tongue. Carlos screamed in horror? The Payan leader grabbed Carlos tongue and began to slice it off in front of us. Carlos screamed like a pig being butchered. The Paya then tossed his tongue on the floor in front of us where it still twitched. Blood poured from Carlos mouth as he screamed. The sounds of it where almost unbearable. The Payan leader then took out a knife and plunged into Carlos heart to stop him from screaming. Then as quickly as they can all the Playa left the room leaving us with the body of Carlos and our own fear.

To be Continued Maybe
