In my day they would have pistol-whipped him back.

in the Town next to me, there used to be the Hegins Labor day Pigeon Shoot the Animal rights Psychos would run out on the fields
in front of the shooters & lay down.
At first they Carried them off like this guy above. the Psychos, started
yelling "Ouch !" the police then had to bring Stretchers onto the field, & carry them out on stretchers.
I'm surprised they didn't do that for him :P
