This axe is a type not often seen. This three-quarter groove axe has a double groove. From Bartholomew Co, Indiana, this 5 1/4 inch long axe has some poll damage, but the second groove is easily seen. The grooves are well polished and the face of the axe has peck marks still visible.

I can't recall another axe in my collection which has a double groove.

Happy New Year everyone.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen one like that. Maybe at one time it was larger. After use maybe it had to be rehaftted?

It's possible that the second groove was a later modification, it's one of those things that is not possible to determine.
