Most of these are water washed quartz, except the Brewerton. I think its jasper. Had some fuzzy pix I posted earlier. Also a nice quartz knife minus the tip. Found a big peice of pottery also. The large stone is rough quartzite maybe. It has a groove all the way across that is smoothed down to a dark layer of the stone. Was wondering what it was(straightner?) It was found in a well known artifact spot in the water. The last thing is up to yall to tell me what it is. Its got a small break on the right wing and is well worked on both sides. Maybe a short drill or perforater. Thats all I got for now. Just got my camara back. Will go through my recent stuff see if there is anything else worth showing. Good to be back. Cant wait for all the vegetation at my spot to die out in late fall.

Good to see you back. I like the color of that quartz. The last pic looks like the remains of a base maybe :dontknow: Good luck at your spot this heat should burn back the vegetation in no time.

Thanks tn. I thoughtabout it being a broken peice but it doesnt seem to be made that way. I could be wrong but i think it was made to be used how im holding it. The last pic kinda shows the flaking but its not coming out on here like I want it to. It is definetly good to be back. Cant wait for winter thats my hot time.

Nice finds. Love the quartz points, my area is loaded with quartz so I hope to find a couple whole ones myself, just a couple heartbreakers so far.

Cant wait for all the vegetation at my spot to die out in late fall.

Me too. I'm past ready for it.

No. Typically sugar quartz is just like sugar packed together, if you hit it with something you will be sugary pieces come off.
One thing I noticed when I was there was some rocks have mica in them, some ppl mistake these rocks for quartz ( ite) That looks like what I would find down the creek in big boulders. I know the Indians didn't utilize that rock, its just not good for knapping, its way too flakey.

the rock im talking about which i thought might be a straightner is very rough almost like sandpaper. The groove in it has smoothed out . Was wondering if they would have used it to smooth out spears our arrows like sand paper. It could be a mica stone but it is crumbly like sugar. Mica comes off in flakes more like slate.

I have some shaft straighteners, they have polished smooth areas, along the shaft. To be honest hon, I don't think thats one. They seem to be of a more tougher rock.. That type of rock is'nt too good for that. The groove ( split) looks natural to me. Like I said there were tons of it in & near the creeks, with the natural splits in them too. You can tell instantly if its been utilised as a shaft straightener. I'll see if I can find one to show you from your area.. Like i said I do have some but from other states..Maybe my buddy at the museum in NC has some.
Now this is just my opinion, I do have some experience in eastern artifacts but I'm by no means an expert, so I'll ask one. I'll send him your pic.

Molly..
