Hello everyone,

Today was a very mild day for late December in Massachusetts, although the ground was frozen solid at a depth of 2” — 2 1/2” in the school’s wood chip playground. :BangHead: My daughter and I, both sporting our Minelab x-terra 705’s hers with the 7.5 KHz and me the 18.75 KHz search coils tackled the out of town school yard. After understanding the frozen depth problem, we turned down the sensitivity way down to hit object no deeper than about 4 inches. This saved us the frustration of hearing the good signals knowing that we would need a jack hammer to retrieve them from their icy grave. We will go back in a few months (March/April) to completely finish the job. The hunt had a few surprises: two rings, small jewelry, GOLD earring, two magnets and an 1829 Mexican 1 real coin. Obviously, the “real” was a recent drop, probably brought in for show and tell? Another odd find of the day was a smaller than usual 2008 Washington quarter placed in a copper ring. Funny, it looks like it’s a wedding band? Lastly, a nice day of recently dropped clad shooting netting $ 1.76 dollars, and of course some junk.

Thank you for looking.

GL & HH

Great finds! You never know what you might get from school grounds

Lucky finds!....the real must have knocked your Sox off!

That's an outstanding hunt........frozen ground, notwithstanding!!
You went from the mud to the ice in the span of 10 days (?) and came out with some gems in both cases.......way to go, Doc!!

A good hunt

you are killin it here lately. Great job bearing up under all that frozen tundra.

Hello Chizzy,

Looks like I will be hunting in the woods very soon, things are beginning to freeze up!

Regards,

Doc

Congrats to the both of you :occasion14: The finds are great, but the time spent detecting with family is priceless. That Real would look good in anyone's collection, I am glad to see it in yours Doc.

WOW, to the day last year I found a 1836 Real
Nothing as cool as a eagle standing on a cactus holding a rattlesnake in its claws.

Great hunt and glad you two were able to get out despite a bit of frozen dirt! Congratulations on the Mexican silver :occasion14:

Very nice find. You just never know what will show up in a school yard.

PoE... You rock! You keep finding coins that make me jealous! Very well done sir.

Thanks Loco-Digger, my daughter loves metal detecting.
