I have not gotten out much lately. The rain has been relentless for several months.

I did manage to slip out for a couple of hours over the weekend. I hit a grassy place where some houses used to be, we’ve found some silver coins amongst the trash.

I dug a few modern coins, then a couple of wheaties... it was nice to just be outside digging little holes.

I got a deeper high tone, too large to be coin, obviously a piece of aluminum. I dug it anyway, and out pops a spoon. It was deep, but looks like modern stainless steel.

I wipe the back, and sure enough, it’s marked STERLING and PAT.1909.

I check the front and it’s engraved with a B, which I suspect stands for bingo, because that’s what I said when I realized it was silver and in good shape.

It was made by Whiting Mfg in NY. The name of the pattern is Madam Jumel. Here she is, quite an interesting life story.

Did I digress?

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts.

Nice looking sterling spoon Tom. Glad you were able to get out. Our weather is just starting to break here now, and our temps are finally averaging around 15-18 degrees. I was out last Saturday when it reached 32 degrees, and that was my first time since December.
