Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

We were scrambling for an extra line handler and anchor slugger
this morning but one fell out of the sky..... :angel12:

My wife and I were going to go out - even if we were alone
but I can honestly tell you I would have felt real bad making her
lug those anchors about..... :whip2: :whip2: :violent1: :BangHead:

I was kinda hoping the piece of wood was going to look like the
one pictured but....

No such luck!

Since the unfortunate dive incident here in Stuart recently, I've become aware of how poorly most divers display a dive flag..and your boat seems to be included.

Aside from that observation, good luck with your endeavour!

Hey Capn' Dom. It's good to see you out on the wreck site. I always look forward to your postings. Keep up the great work, and this year . . . find this "mother lode" that keeps eluding everyone. I've sat on one of your presentations and I agree with your hypothesis as to where it lay. Let's hope no one gets in your way this year. God speed and be safe. By the way, thanks for updating your website www.jupitercoins.com. :icon_thumright:

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

Good observation Bill. The flag is actually attached to an antenna that normally would be above the highest point on the boat... if I hadn't forgotten to lower it before we reached the bridge! It will be fixed soon.

Nice coin Dom. Hope there are many more to come. :headbang:

Thanks Tom :violent1:

for taking the hit on me for the low profile
dive flag....
As soon as we are more flush.... we will raise the
dive flag a bit higher.....

on the weekends, don't give a crap anyhow!

It has been a standing rule of mine to avoid "Sunday Diving"

Right after that... Mad-for-Wrecks and we will be out there

Good luck to the Brisben's and all their subcontractors

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

Three steps forward...... :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :argue: :argue:

and then two steps back.....

We finally got the twin Verna-Lift wet exhausts installed in the "Tank" last week :smileinbox: :smileinbox:

I post some photos. later....

I knew this weekend the beach folks would be happy as the sound disables would be cut
in about half and then maybe we could run up the RPM's and dig to 30 plus - where we had
marked our spot earlier..... :hello2: :hello2:

We dug for an hour straight.... got down to about 25 feet..... :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:
No bottom.... Dug three more pilot holes, in an attempt to widen the hole....

Then dug again..... :violent1: :violent1: :violent1: :BangHead:

Murphy's Law..... Yes, we can now run up the RPM's .... :headbang:

Right up until the 475 horsepower 6-V92 - at 1600 RPM and a 30 inch square wheel
ripped the fiberglass and stainless steel locking sleeves out of the blower and bent the
5/8ths inch S.S. rod pin like a pretzel.... ??? ??? ???

Oh, well, nobody lost any fingers or toes and the deep
treasure along the scatter pattern is still safely buried.

We will be fixing the blower attaching system as soon as the fiberglass drys
out and be back on site.

I will post some photos, or maybe mad-for-wrecks can.....

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

I think Dom had some information on a "Chinese Junk" shipwreck because it sure felt like we were digging to China!

This is what a broken blower looks like (where it pins to the keel) :'(

The blower by the way, was designed by David Luke. Some of you 1715 historians may know the name.

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

Repaired Blower.....

more money... but a labor of love.... :love4: :love5:

now to high jack a fuel truck.... We were lifting the
boat right out of the water when the pin let go the last
time we dove! :BangHead: :BangHead:

Stupidity on my part...

Now that we can run up the RPM's - we will be using
three inch cargo straps to hold the blower to the bottom
of the boat. :sign13:

Expecting the pin to do the job alone with 475 horsepower
on one wheel was not very bright! :icon_scratch:

We had never run it up and kept it that high before, however
because it was just too loud with the straight pipe
muffler system...

Now we will able to dig deep

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

We finally got back out on the site today to try out the blower since the recent repairs. The first thing we discovered is that it didn't fit exactly flush against the keel (off just a bit) and we couldn't get the pin in, so we had to strap the blower in place. Later, we were digging so hard in the deep sand that the protective cage on the blower disintegrated. It took some duct tape, band-aids, bubblegum and repositioned straps but we were back in business. Pics show Dom picking up the blower pieces off the bottom and Dom & Yvonne doing repairs. We also saw some snorkelers checking out the holes that Seahunter blew on Saturday.

Then the storms rolled in and it was back to the dock in Tequesta, a new mooring location for us.

Later Monica and I were enjoying some beers at the Square Grouper and witnessed a snook feeding frenzy off the dock. I stuck my camera down in the water and filmed the action. Pretty cool. A few quick videos on Youtube.

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

We want to thank Armydiver (John Hawk) for coming out and helping us today. Not only is John a newbie to TNET, he is a newbie to treasure diving (but not diving in general). John has been out of the Army a year now (tours in Afghanitsan and Iraq if I remember correctly) and is attending college & had some free time to give us a helping hand. He is a quick learner and it was great having him out with us.

Thanks John! :headbang:

Re: The "Tank" is back at our Jupiter Shipwreck Site!

Thanks to Capt Dom and everyone else on the crew who had me out! I had a great time! Excellent first experience. Next time we'll find the motherload... and maybe I'll be smart enough to put on some sun screen or at least a t-shirt to hide my growing waist line! I got crispy but it was totally worth it!

Tom,
Nice pictures man! That little camera of yours does an awesome job. You'll have to e-mail me the others. And yes, you remembered correctly. 1 year out at the end of this month and tours to Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Looking forward to coming back out and learning some more! Appreciate all the knowledge you guys were kind enough to pass on already!

Thanks!
Jon
