I just remembered a spot in Tuxedo N.Y where me and my dad went hunting for game about 60 years ago .....At that time no one coin detect ..I remember not far from The old 1800 iron furnace on the road to Monroe to the east about 1/4 mile threw the woods toward Indian hill there was 3 old stone hand placed sites for shacks i remember moving the leaves around and seeing some old objects that looked like they were made out of pewter i move the leaves and moved on i just looked this site today is in sterling forest state park ...which borders harriman state park my guess the 2 are +70,000 acres ...Its probably illegal to metal detect today ...but in the early 80s i gave my son a list of spots in this revolutionary area where the chain was made to cross the hudson to stop the british ships sailing to kingston the capital ...And i remember some of his finds the best one was a like new 1473 silver from england i guess someones keep sake another one was a very small dutch coin from the early 1600's ...lots of coins from early 1800 to the civil war time ...The iron used to make parrot cannons was from this area if i remember in Arden used in the Civil War ...I never told my son this spot because at that time people lived on Indian hill i heard that house has been gone for the last 30 years ...There many many many spots like this in those 70,000 acres ....This mining area helped produce iron for 3 wars...Its not far from Manhattan ....I hope my son dosn;t read this he will think ive been holding out on him
