I heard today was going to be nice and warm but I also knew that one warm day doesn't thaw a week's worth of subzero. 8-)

Still, couldn't pass up a chance to walk. So I figured to try this one field at the mansion that usually has some thawed ground but it has been collecting trash forever!

There are even mounds of broken ground. Where rocks, trash, soil etc have been piled up. I save it for a day like this. Relic hunting I went!

The long wire like thing is solid copper. The rest is full of brass. Except the scraping tool, which I found interesting.

The angled piece is almost all solid brass! About 5 lbs worth. :treasurechest:

*THIS* was the most interesting "relic" found. It was simply lying just as you see it here.

Funny what can be found and where, when one simply allows the eyes to do what they do best....see! :tongue3:

This is the flame adjuster on the lantern part. I'll leave it to the experts. My eyes are too tired to read it.

Seems everybody's happy again.

Thanks for peeking folks!

the "scraping tool" is a drawknife used to shape wood. Also looks like a mandrel in the pic which grinding wheels are mounted on to sharpen tools.

The draw knife used mainly for taking bark off trees.

Draw knives were used for many things. Making axe, pic, and any other handles. Not to mention single trees, barrel staves and almost any wood work.
