There are 12 small playgrounds in the complex where I live. This is the only playground where they put up this sign.

Maybe they have some aggressive squirrels. Some people try to feed them like ducks and the squirrels get used to coming up to people for food but can get spooked might leap towards someone. If I had a kid at the playground I wouldn't want to worry about hungry squirrels so the sign seems reasonable to me.

I have some pretty angry squirrels around my house. Something was ripping up my garbage cans, I first thought that rats were getting in there, but it turned out to be squirrels.
They should not be fed, IMO.

Good. They absolutely wreck my bird feeders to the point of me not even wanting to put out bird seed anymore.

Once I was feeding the squirrels m&m’s in a woodsy part of central park. They were coming out of the trees in droves. I never seen so many squirrels in one place.

If anything,, these squirrels are overfed. This particular playground has nothing but artificial turf. There are some young children that attend soccer clinics for tots but there is a fence around the playground. There is a second tot lot playground with swings, monkey bars, and other exercise equipment. There are no signs on that playground fence. This 85 acre complex has so many trees and lawns, it is called "The Oasis in The City" Every park in the city has oodles of squirrels. There is a general number of rules for all city parks.
One general rule is,, "Do not feed the pigeons or squirrels."
I just found it strange that they zeroed in on this one playground.

At least it's not a "no metal detecting" sign.

Me being the smart aleck I am, I'd put a pile of nuts & seeds 51 feet away from the area with a little sign that said 51 feet square in the middle of it. Wonder if they'd change their sign?
