I have posted one before, no comments. all were found in the front of the mansion near the old road. I know the owners had horses, maybe?

they are brass, one is more rounded, the others are smaller and oblong.

Could very well be home-made conchos, and although a bit small, they certainly have the
look, and holes for the drawstrings to come through.

Do they appear to be hand-hammered, or stamped?

I think they look like some type of 'mammy made' bells or bell halves. It was popular for horses to wear bells especially for funerals . . . .or they could have been used as shopkeeper's door bells. No matter how they were used, they look homemade. The ones below only have 1 attachment hole, but the idea is the same.

Why is this marked solved? They look nothing like conchos or bells to me.
I was hoping to see a real ID on this one. I have not figured it out.
I have seen these posted somewhere before,so they are not 1 (or 3) of a kind items.

I agree with you; I would like to see an exact match, but I'm guessing the reason they are not 100% ID-ed is because they are handmade. Back years ago, folks were not wasteful like they are today. They would pound out something from a piece of metal because they needed it, and years later someone used it for a different purpose.

They could have all been strung together and used as a storekeeper's door bell and years later someone else could have run some leather through them as decorative tack. Or they could have been made to use as 'feet' on a steamer trunk. I guess we'll never know exactly the orginal purpose. I don't think there is a positive 100% ID available, although I'd like to see one too.

they still look like some kind of electrical piece. wire would run through those holes to keep them seperated.

yes same area, there was an old road in the 19th century, i have found about a mile so far.

Unfortunately, I don't think a bell can "ring" if there is a cord
running across both sides of the bell. I'll stick with the conchos
idea, or some other hand-made decorative addition to a harness
of some type.

I agree; maybe I should have been more specific. If they were all strung together, instead of 'ringing,' they would 'clang' when they struck each other; hence hanging on a shopkeepers door. Breezie

Maybe they are just "jury-rigged" buttons that someone made to repair a coat or something.
