The small button on the left - Does that have a train engine on it? If it does, I found the same button here in SW Georgia. I found it in a place where I have dug some 1840s dimes and 1/2 dimes at. I don't know anything about the button so if you find out about yours, I'd be interested in the information.

Good looking Button :icon_thumright: Is it a one peice ? can't tell , but it looks like a New York Staff. Check this site: http://sgtriker.com/Unionbuttons.htm
scroll down to NY28. $170 big ones. :dontknow: Go get some more.

It's close, but two rows of feathers (yours) not three, and the joint of the wing is above the head(yours) not below. Maybe the same Reg'd, but a different manufacturer :dontknow:. Worth looking into

Yes it has a train engine on it. That's cool that you found one too! I have no info on it but I'll let you know if I find anything. If you find something first, let me know, okay?

I think you might be right. Someone else identified it as a New York Staff also. It looks like it might have been made in two pieces, but what do I know? Do you have any idea of the age?

I'll snap a picture of my train engine button tomorrow in the sun light where hopefully the details of the button will be clear and send it to you.

I am a little confused( but, That's normal) Is the first picture the back of the eagle button or train button? If it is the back of the train button can you post one of the eagle button back?
I am guessing here but the Eagle button looks like a New York militia staff button. I can't tell from the picture how many bars are in the shield but there are 3 versions; 4,5&6 bars. Each would have a different back mark but all 3 would date the button from about 1848 onward.

This is the train engine button I dug. Not too good of a picture. The back is shot and is corroded beyond being able to see anything on it. The button is the same size as a 1/2 dime.

I'm not sure what you mean by "bars" in the shield, can you tell me what to look for?
The picture of the back of the button is the eagle button.
The back is blank.
