I couldnt post this one earlier because of the breakdown of T-net...
We went to a place near the infamous bridge of Remagen to test some detectors and coils for a buddy who owns a shop here. After marking out an area we tagged all signals and left him alone to do his work :laughing7: , went into the woods to to look what else was hidden there. A lot of history in this place. This wood is near the road german troops used on their fallback over the rhine followed shortly by americans. As expected we had some military finds but also stuff down to roman times...
For me i had a very bad roman, 2 Pfennig from 1865, 17th century(i think) buckles, a railroad spike ??? dont know for what a railroad spike was used on this place..., horseshoe, two linchpins, arsenicbronce flat button and a pewter spoon as well as a bunch of cal. .50 bullets.
Last day digging for this year, now everything is frozen and covered with snow. :P

Thanks! During field cleaning i hoped to see silver, but it is the same like the button. We call it arsenicbronce. Its a bronce alloy. How do You call this? After doing his paperwork on the finds in the tagged area our buddy came over and had some nice coins too. Better shape than the ones i had. Sorry but i have no pics from these...

Congrats on the buckles. Those old buckles display nicely.

Initially bronze was made out of copper and arsenic to form arsenic bronze. It was only later that tin was used, becoming the sole type of bronze in the late 3rd millennium BC. Tin bronze was superior over arsenic bronze in that the alloying process itself could more easily be controlled (as tin was available as a metal) and the alloy was stronger and easier to cast. Also, unlike arsenic, tin is not toxic.
