Howdy Folks. Some various stuff from this weeks hunts. Scored the tiny Illinois Department of Finance Token today. Looks fairly old. No old coins but, I'm still looking. Thanks for stopping by. Kurios1

Some history:
In 1935 the US treasury department claimed that Washington state tokens were an assault on US coinage, and due to a resemblance to US dimes Illinois state tokens were removed from circulation and redesigned (16mm square).
Tax tokens were issued in fractions of a cent, or thousandths (“mills”) of a dollar, to help collect the correct taxes on small purchases. 1 and 5 mills are the most common denominations, but other denominations include: 1/5 cent, 1 1/2 mills, and "Tax on 10c or less."

I think it's a sales tax token issued in 1935-36. There are several identical tokens on the net if you search them. Kind of cool historical little piece of aluminium.

Well that's a cool token. The arrows on that headstamp caught my eye, and had to do a little research. This company began as the Robin Hood Powder Co., of Swanton, Vermont, in 1896, and organized under the laws of Vermont two years later in 1898. Over the years, its hierarchy was drawn from former employees of many of the well know cartridge manufacturers of the times.

In December of 1906, with the addition of new backers, it was reorganized as the Robin Hood Ammunition Co., although the company did not cease powder production until 1915. At that time, the company was purchased by Remington-Union Metallic Cartridge Co..
I think that one is from the Robinhood Powder Co. according to :ROBIN HOOD HEADSTAMPS
Very cool K! Congrats on some more nice finds:occasion14:

Getting a couple of different items on any hunt is a good day. Liking the sq. token it's in fine shape, and the Robin hood headstamp. Both of them aren't posted up very often in the finds department.
The second photo (not sure on the size) but reminds me a lot like a piece of Hydro Brass. Electrical connector for high voltage switches & line connectors. Good value at the scrap yard so throw it in the collection bucket when/if you discard.

Thanks buddy. I know there is some interesting stuff yet to find on this old historic permission. I do like my tokens and that old Robin Hood head stamp was cool too. Might have been my first one of those. Today may turn up another goody.

Exactly my friend. I do love the learning process of researching our recoveries. This T-net crew is the best for helping identity our finds. SALUTE!

"Occupation" refers to the fact that this was supposedly a tax upon merchants of various (virtually all) occupations; however, they were permitted to pass it on to consumers. This technicality neatly circumvented the state constitution, thus allowing citizens to be taxed on retail purchases.

http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/122465-1-1-2-occupation-token.html
BTW, Contrary to what is mentioned in post #4, the token was actually demonetized on June 30, 1947.
