'To Hanover' 1864 token, Bronze Clasp or Brooch, & other stuff
Hi All,
Got back to the 'Hexagram Token' field whilst the rain kept off - hoping to find some more - No more hexagrams but found 1 or 2 interesting objects.
A 1864 'To Hanover' token.
After William IV died, Victoria; on becoming Queen, inherited many of King William's titles - The 'Electorship of Hanover' however could only be inherited by a male heir and so was passed to the Duke of Cumberland, not liked by many, unpopular - he soon departed to Hanover. It is thought that these tokens were used for gaming - "good riddance" so to speak.
One side reads 'VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN' and the other 'TO HANOVER 1864'.
Also found this small Bronze clasp or brooch - looks like there's evidence of it once being enamelled as there is still some colouring left - (Almost didn't dig this, pretty deep it was, only the faintest of signals) - any idea of its age? Is it a clasp or brooch?
A Pear-shaped lead weight (perhaps another Roman Steel Yard Balance weight)
Pewter Handle
A well-worn (flattened) Thimble
A few buttons, lead washer, broken draw handle (I think) and an unidentified pretty gilted item made by Carpenter & Co. Birmingham
A bronze Acorn-shaped finial
And of course the usual Horse Shoe again (another one for Christmas), bits of lead, and loads of bullets and cartridge cases
As always - any help on the ages and more identification is most appreciated.
Best wishes,
David.
