Hello everyone,

Had our first metal detecting club hunt for 2017 on a very old property dating back to the early 1700s that yielded some cool finds yesterday, variety of coppers were dug up, a New Jersey, couple of King Georges, some Indians, and Silvers, my friend got the best find of the day 1790 two Reale.

I wasn't finding much other than a small flat button when finally lo and behold about 7 inches down I popped up a copper. Wasn't sure what it was but I did see the eye and rays, thought it might be a Nova Constellatio copper but there was just enough detail to identify it as a Vermont copper, the 1786 VERMONTENSIUM type. It's very toasted but it's a first for me and a bucket lister.

Also found a 1947 Rosie

Enjoy photos and Happy Hunting

Glad to hear of a club doing an actual hunt for history. Good on all of you.

Congrats on your bucket list copper. Glad you were able to identify it.

Wow, that's a cool State coin, can't remember seeing any posted before. Congrats.

Great eye figuring out that copper . That has to be a tough one to get in any condition .
One of THE Best finds on here in quite sometime.

Outstanding !

Congrats on the old copper

One of the most beautiful coin designs, ever IMHO. Rare as they come and an important part of post colonial history. Because Vermont was a republic at the time and this currency was ordered by its legislature, it is in a sense the first American mint. And the ties between Harmon's mint and Machin's mint in New York are fascinating.

Even in this condition deserves banner.

I tried to get this one from last summer up there as well, no luck

Great finds. Old toasted copper is still a good find.
My area is really hard on copper. I have one really nice draped bust LC. The rest range from rough to completely toasted.
If you can get a date it's a good one in my book...

Thanks for the information! And the link to the thread.

Had some help with the ID, thanks for reply!

Even toasted it's still cool as heck. I do wish your eastern soil treated those rare coppers better. That is a wonderful once in a lifetime find for most folks. I doubt I'll be finding any here in Illinois but, you never know. Congratulations mate.

Wow how come no one dropped any of those kinds of finds around here...I find so many wheats I think this being a college town people were very cheap and picked up any coins they might have dropped. I think they had some kind of game like pokeman but with pull tabs and dropped them everywhere!!! Great post.

That's one Sweet old copper, you did good!!
