Met up with Jeffofpa djmofpa and texjim, hes of pa too ;D

Found my first flying eagle, It sure looked like a 56 down there until I got home the last number disappeared >:( any ideas on how to bring it back? I figure it probably was a 58 :dontknow: pic doesn't help too much but it seems like a nickel gets with the corrosion.

Also found by me was a 1918 wheat, and a 1904 injun, along with a pretty sure its silver, the stamp on the inside is wore pretty good but you can see a stamp.

This place has been producing for us an abundance of wheats, and indian heads, this is the first flying eagle out of there. I'm betting because of its location its been cherry picked pretty well over the years. There has only been a handful of silver to come out of there.

The FE was about 10 feet from where I had dug this one last year

I still think it is the ever elusive 1856. That ending number was no "8". I hope you are able to get it cleaned up to find out for sure.
Thanks for letting me hang out with you guys today!

I'll give ya my 2 cents. :) someone told me to take a clean (unwrinkled) piece of tin foil, hold it over the date, and lightly rub over the date with a pencil eraser. if there is any trace of the digit there, it will transfer to the foil, and perhaps make the id a little easier for you to distinguish.
let us know if it works!
Jim.

No luck with the foil, maybe lemon juice? I dont want to use clr, but this thing realllly looks like nickle corrosion. :dontknow:

I guess I have nothing to loose at this point, cant see the last digit, im seeing the 185, and when it was still fresh from the ground the last digit had the lower loop, but did not resemble the lower loop of the first 8

a pencil eraser lightly accross the date area
would be as far as id go at this point.

Trying all these things probably has
already destroyed any chance though.

Still The oldest find of the day.
Congrats !

Now that you mentioned the nickle corrosion that explains why it rang up for me in the pull tab area. I guess that is why you need to dig everything. That was the first time i have ever seen a flying eagle. Nice job. Texjim of Pa. lol
