Hi Wizard, hygrometers are used to measure the humidity (or moisture content) of the air. Not too sure how you
would apply this to reptiles but i do know that certain species of frog require a particular level of moisture in the air
to survive happily.
Cheers, rubytuesday

Many reptiles have specific humidity and husbandry needs. I keep and breed over 50 snakes many of which require different levels of humidity depending on what part of the world they originate from. The gauge you found is next to worthless, not worth shipping it to someone. Throw it in a junk drawer for another time :)
