Today's pottery
Now that we've cleaned up some of the big debris, it hasn't been safe to walk under a large tree that is stuck there until today so I decided to dig in the bank of the creek in a spot where I've had really good luck with shards and points. Haven't had much rain either so digging and raking are the only way to get things to move around. I found these 3 in the same spot. The larger one is a Burke Phase one and the way to tell is it's tempered with soapstone, there is a fabric impressed pattern on it but it's hard to see in the pic. The other two I'm not sure of the time periods for them, although the triangular one looks to be tempered with soapstone as well. According to the archies here that makes them Mississippian est. year A.D. 1400-1600. Hoping to find some stone stuff too and have next week off so when I'm not doing Spring cleaning in the yard and house I will be out in the creek poking around. Thanks for looking! HH
