When I found this token in a dug up street in Mankato, MN, I couldn't decide if it was a token or a button, so I asked a friend who happens to be an avid collector of merchant tokens. It turns out that this person was a Tailor by trade, circa 1900-1910. His real name was Wenzel Huttl. He supposedly would sew it on a shirt if you lost a button, but it also served as advertising for his business.
