What are most old tokens made out of? Copper...other?
The one I found rang up as VDI 70 on my MXT.
Do they usually have dates on them? Some of the lettering is gone, how would I date this coin (Besides being a gentleman...before one of you wise arses makes a comment ;D)

I can't get a clear pic. But the token is maybe 1 mm larger than a penny. it has a 2mm hole in the center. It says:
Shoreline Elec. RY(?) Co.
2 1/2 c
TOKEN
Norwich, Conn.

The Shore Line Electric Railway began in 1910, and by 1913 it had over 200 miles of track in eastern Connecticut. It ceased operations in 1919 after a series of bad accidents, but in 1923 a portion of its former route was resumed by the newly-created New Haven & Shore Line Railway Co. In 1929, its electric railcar service was replaced by buses.

I found only one listing for a token from this line: white metal, 20 mm, solid; $20. The token was reportedly used with a fare collection device known as a Rooke Register. Passengers inserted the token (or a coin) into the machine, which was held by the conductor and mechanically entered the fare.
