Hello all new to this section but longtime member
Today I found this to me it looks like a weapon
A tomahawk but not like one I can find
It seems made of copper , it's hammered around for a shaft
Worked to a cutting (at least a skull smashing edge
Any thoughts. Found in New York in an area with a ripe
Lenepee Indian presence. Thanks hh gl

I've added better photos , hope these help !

Welcome aboard.

Not sure what it is, but I really sure it's not an artifact or an Axe. It might be part of an old Plow maybe.

Looks like a plain old rock to me. Not man made.

Looking at the green tarnish I can see why you'd say copper....or brass. How did you determine its copper? The rough texture though makes me think it's cast like pot metal.

Didn't read the copper part, still not a tool.

Ok it's not a tool , it's worked from one flat piece of copper , hammered to a chiseled edge ,
Then folded around something creating a hole through the upper to lower back part of piece ,
That could easily have fit a stick as a handle. , that being said what could it be ?

There are lots of copper tools found, primarily around the Great Lakes, and they made different varieties of socketed adzes and tools. It looks different than any of the common forms, but maybe it's just been beat to heck and back.

Can you take a picture sideways (the item, not you) so that we can see the bit? The second picture is sort of the profile shot, but the bit is out of the picture and at an angle.

A couple of pictures that show the piece like this?

i have a lot of copper "artifacts" some similar to yours. I attribute mine to blacksmithing and soldering that happened on the beach at a specific spot.
