I am so cheap! I can't make myself buy a Lesche, gator, or any of the diggers that are MD specific.

I actually use 2 digging tools that I carry in my back pocket wrapped in a piece of 4 mil plastic (my drop cloth for dirt and plugs) so the inside of my back pocket stays somewhat clean.

First tool is a Fiskars serrated sod cutter- excellent for plug cutting. Cost like $11 at Walmart.

The second is a Black & Decker garden trowel. I got it at Walmart also for like $4. It is not so good at cutting the plugs, but it's a way better scoop than the Fiskars. I modded it a little to cut better for when I have to widen the hole, but it still stinks got the initial plugging. Together they do what I need them to?!?!

I still have my sharpened fiskers too! I bought the lesche because my wrists and hands couldn't do the digging anymore, so I bought the sampson so I can dig with my foot and not so much hands. I couldn't justify it otherwise before. Now I couldn't live without it. It truly is that goid of a tool fir metal detecting and household use

Take a look at the Treasure Wise digging tools, they are as tough as the Lesche, but are much less money.

I used several different trowels/ diggers from Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, and Sears. All sucked, all broke, worst of all some broke when I didn't bring a backup. Bought a left hand Lesche hand digger about a year ago. Use it hard, love it, can't brake it. Next will be the 31 inch Samson. steve

Neither of mine have broke....yet! I'm pretty rough on them but the Fiskars sod cutter is a blade through design so it's super sturdy- dont know that I could break it if I tried, I do worry about rust though. It's obviously not stainless.

I really liked the fiskars transplanting tool I had but I snapped the handle off in about 2 weeks, the aluminum or pot metal casting is weak where the plastic handle slips over it to meet the blade.

Decided to buy the right tools for the job. Got the lesche digging tool and their 18" T handled sampson. Both are top notch. There is no fear of bending or breaking while digging with them. money well spent.

I did manage to break a Lesche digger after a couple years use. I simply sent it back and got a brand new one.

I use a Wilcox All Pro that I've used for about 20 years or so, still works fine and never had any problems with it. Can't remember where I bought it at or how much I paid for it though.

I have a brother that is an excellent welder. I described the tool that I wanted and he banged out a couple in stainless steel. Not as light as regular steel, but they will outlive us all. Digging tools.jpeg Digging tools.jpeg

Christo,

I didn't get a good pic of the business end. Here are some pics that show the serrations. It is made from stainless pipe, so it was ground a bit with some teeth added. photo (1).JPG photo.JPG
