I was basically in the same boat debating between those two detectors about a month ago. After doing research it actually came down to the Gold Bug 2 vs Whites GMT for me. It came down to those two detectors because of the higher frequency compared to the 19khz Operating Frequency on the Gold Bug Pro or X-Terra. The higher frequency will allow you to find much smaller gold pieces.

The Gold Bug 2 is supposed to be the best small gold detector but is harder to operate, because of my limited experience I went with the Whites GMT.

Hope that helps a little bit. I do hear both the Gold Bug Pro and X-Terra are good detectors but with little interest in relics and other things besides gold I went with a different purchase.

Yes and thanx. I owned a GMT at one time. Still going to be one of these two.

If the GB Pro is anything like the GB 2 it will not work worth a damn on the beach.
