Tough Christmas for Salvation Army:
No gold coins, but 1 gold crown

It was a tough Christmas season for the Salvation Army bell ringers.

How tough?

In recent years, bell ringers have found South African Krugerrands and other rare coins in their red kettles.

But this year, someone dropped a used gold crown from a tooth.

Another dropped a fake $1 million bill.

There also was a $1 bill with "Git-R-Done!" written on it and signed Larry the Cable Guy.

Re: Was the Salvation Army Lying about the Gold Coin Finds ?

I always enjoyed hearing about the gold coin drops. When I googled, it appears that several other cities did in fact, have gold coins dropped in the kettles. I think this article was specific to Lincoln, NE.

Gold crown? Let's see...at 2 to 3 grams per crown made of 10K to 16K gold, that would make it worth no more than $63 scrap value, max.

63$ would still buy a few dinners or a few toys. I wouldn't sneeze at a gold filling ! ;D
