colonial weight.jpgA friend found this recently in Northern Virginia and thought it was some kind of coin. I have not personally seen it but was provided this photo. It is fairly thick and heavy, an inch or less in diameter, with a nub sticking up in the middle. Not sure what the metal is, I think probably brass or bronze. At first I thought it could be a button, but since my friend says it is pretty heavy, I'm thinking maybe a trade weight or counter weight, since if this is the back of a button, it would have makers mark and not these type stamps? Not sure about the meaning of the markings but thought someone here might have an idea. Thanks, he says there are no marks on the back.

Thanks for the quick reply, nhbenz! Appreciate it. I have marked this thread solved, but if anyone has any info on the individual marks on the weight, please feel free to add info or a link - thanks-
