Today I took a day off work and did some hunting on a civil war battle field in western Maryland. I came up with an interesting find. An aluminum coin/tag with "E. H. Morsell" Hardware and House Furnishing. NW Washington DC. I then found online an ad in McClures dating to 1900 with the business listed. Other finds today were a 1919 Wheaty, a flattened 3 ringer bullet, and what appears to be a rifled slug. Did they use these slugs in the civil war? It appears almost like a hollow point. You can still see the grooves in the side of the round. It seems to have been in the ground for a while.

As far as I'm aware they still use those type of 'deer' slugs today, not older than 1900 I believe.
