Had an opportunity to hunt a friend's permission on Thursday and it is a challenging area where trash seems to have been pushed around by re-grading. Some of the older finds included a brass drawer pull, top finishing brass piece to a lamp, hemweight and then this piece that I was sure was trash. The target was shallow (4 inches) and had the appearance of aluminum when I got it out of the hole. Turns out to be Sterling and is marked "LSCO STERLING". No idea yet of the date.

Anything silver, I would call treasure. I agree, it looks like a belt buckle. Nice find!

ANYTHING marked sterling is treasure. Silver is at 18.00 an ounce. Even if it is scrap sterling it is still silver. Nice

Thx JoeDirty! All votes are for treasure. Had it pegged for trash until I saw "Sterling".

Thx Underminer! If I had to rescue a buckle (and most are brass or iron), make mine a Sterling.

Thx Coinman. That would have been an easy detail to include. Will weigh it this weekend and edit post with update.

Thx ATW! Appears to be enough silver to make a half dollar; will know for sure after it's weighed.

Thx Skippy SH13! This was the only silver we recovered that day. We thought there would be more. Maybe it's just being masked by all the trash signals.

Definitely treasure. Congrats on the sterling. Hopefully you can find info on the maker.
