Wasn't going to go out today but Bill was generous enough to take me to a spot of his. (Thanks alot bill!) Killed it with 3 large cents, pewter spoon handle, awesome crotal bell, and some musket balls. After that I did a little door knocking and got a small permission that was hit before. Got 4 wheats, a nice .925 ring (silver 13 fty), a couple Sunoco tokens, a neat shield with an E on it, a "44" tag, and the craziest find from there, a freakin tootsie car spill! All 4 cars in 1 hole! A fun day, thanks again bill! Thanks for looking and hh!! 20180410_100722.jpg 20180410_171944.jpg 20180410_171736.jpg 20180410_172126.jpg 20180410_171659.jpg 20180410_172516.jpg 20180410_172629.jpg 20180410_120615.jpg 20180410_101051.jpg 20180410_172308.jpg

Excellent outing. Seems that we're getting close to a time limit of sorts. The large cents seem to have a final expiration date. Wonder how long one can last underground?

Great to be able to read anything on them anymore.

Good job!

thank you, it was a nice day out, the 3 lcs came from an area that produced 10 others

thanks Gary! These are farm fresh fertilizer trashed large cents. I've been fortunate to dig some at regular homes and not fields that have been in terrific shape. Not as much as I'd like though lol

Thanks again!

Congrats on a great day of hunting. I might have guessed saddle shield (more modern one) had nhbenz not chimed in. Excellent ID. Those look like some typical smoked farm field coppers. But a copper is a copper I always say. Keep at it bro. :occasion14:

Oh, I know. It's the conditions of the soil that determines. But, sometimes I wonder. Just how long can a piece of copper remain readable? Even copper oxidizes. How long before it becomes unreadable, forever more? 300, 400 yrs?

I know, I know....Cru' finds coins back to the beginning of time. ;)

Still....I wonder.

Anyway, in another 2-300 years, remember where you heard the theory first! :tongue3:
