Found this on the edge of a marsh buried under a huge tree. Found pearl ware pottery and black glass and a musket ball around it. 24 x 24 with a beveled lip on 1 side. Appears to have a handle in the middle on 1 side.

Could be. Still have it in the electrolysis tank I built. Partial plate under with a makers mark dates it to around 1793 to 1810.

Just wanted to welcome you to the site and see it after electrolysis. Few questions...
What was the name of the maker that led you to those dates?
Any evidence of hinges?
Is the handle dead center in the middle of the object or is it centered on an edge?

The plate I found was a Davenport. Made in England from 1793 to about 1810. Half anchor mark. The cast iron piece has handle in the top middle. This pic shows the rest of the pottery found within a foot or two of the "lid" as I call it. image.jpeg

Just a quick update. After reaching out to a local archeologist the item is now in the hands of a local conservation group. All of the items have been dated to the late 1700's to about 1830. will know more as they clean the item and try to ID it.more to come...
