Tumbler Question!

Ok I broke down and got a tumbler. The Grit they sell for it runs in the $9 to $10 range. Thats more than coins that go in it. Any one have an alternative compound (Read Cheaper) that I could use?
Only going to run Clad to roll or spend. The good stuff I don't clean.

Dry sand borrowed from the local playground? That cheap enough? LOL Fred

I use black sand from my prospecting I do. Any old sand will work.

I use steel wool-- a package will last a good long time. Use 1/4 of a pad and cut it up with old scissors. Add a few pieces of aluminum foil to keep the steel from rusting and discoloring your coins. Also want to run your nickels, pennies, and especially your zinc pennies separate. Be careful when you empty your tumbler and handle coins, as the steel slivers are small and sharp.

You can also use pumice, like in a cheap powder cleanser (Bon Ami).

It may take some experimentation to find what works best for the corrosion from your area.
