Bubba and I hit a mid 1800's house on 21 acres today that I had gained permission recently to detect. They owner said some people have used their "Geiger counters" on the property in the past though. :-\ This property is just beautiful, like out of a magazine. Miniature horses in the pastures, and turkeys, geese, ducks, and chickens roaming the yard. Oh yeah, I almost forgot Peety the old dachshund who kept trying to hump my arm. :laughing9: (I think Bubba was jealous)
I dug some coins but nothing silver and not even a wheat! I found a few relics out in the horse pasture up close to the dirt road out front. A lantern piece, piece of a pocketwatch, and two CW 3-ringers!
CW troops went through this county after the battle of Bentonville, but I'm not sure how close to this property. :dontknow:
The VIN tag, which I thought would be from a tractor, turned out to be from an Izuzu! Talk about finding junk! ;D

Can anyone ID these two CW bullets? They are taller then the .58 3-ringers I usually find. There is more space between the base & first ring. :dontknow:

I plan on making the owners a shadowbox if I can find enough relics. They are excited to see everything I dig. :icon_thumleft:

That's all folks,
MM

After you make that last payment, I think it'll be time for new siding or maybe even a roof. Nice pictures & finds Doug!

Nice post Doug. Those bullets look a little odd. :icon_scratch:

Love the wild life. Those toms would be good in a hot oil bath. :D

Geiger counters? I've had people say the same thing. What's up with that. :dontknow:

Good Luck

I was looking at those horses wondering what they would look like with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood riding them into town in a western movie. :laughing9:
Some of these hunters may mistake them as deer.
Thanks VOL,
Doug

I agree with MM those look like what we always called confederate high rings. The Gardner Explosives are usually gray color and will have a teat in the base and Gardner's Pat and the date on the skirt. I've attached a couple pics of an explosive.

Nice saves. Yep, high base bullets. They are much more sought after than the regular 3 ringers. Congrats!

Nice finds on the bullets. When I saw the little horses I thought of Monty Python for some reason. I could just see one of the knights after the Holy Grail riding one of those with his feet on the ground and walking along with the horse saying, "Giddy Up!". Weird, I know.

Thanks everybody. What I lack in finds, I try to make up in humor. :laughing9: :tongue3:
I am glad to have those two bullets though, since that is a different variety than I normally find.
Any CW relics I dig really make my day. :icon_thumleft:
Have a great week,

Ty,
Trying to understand something here..... ? If the specs call for the diameter to be .560....how come his calipers measure the diameter at .577?
Most of the .58 cal projectiles I've read about had a measured diameter of .577.
I understand that caliber does not usually reflect measured diameter but how come this doesn't measure correctly?
Thanks
