I bought two Dietz Lanterns at $3 each. I was surprised to see them at a garage sale because I usually see them at flea markets. The sellers were just putting out their stuff and didn't advertise it in paper. I happened to be driving by so I stopped in to browse around. I guess I was lucky to find them before the pickers!
1) The red lantern is marked "Dietz Wizard No.2" "New York USA"
- the globe appears to be clear but blackened with soot of some kind
- the globe is marked "Rayo Cold Blast - Made in the USA"
- 11.5 inches high (lantern)
2) The black lantern is marked " Dietz Blizzard No.2 - N.Y USA
- The globe is clear and marked "Dietz Fitzall New York USA
- on the back of globe - "H 3"
- 14.5 inches high (lantern)
** Does anyone know anything about these lanterns? How old they might be or value?
I was going to hang them outdoors, but if they are antique and worth something and shouldn't be out in the elements of outdoors because it will deteriorate then I won't put them outside.
What do you recommend I do?
