Got out today and had a fantastic hunt. I had never found any old buttons before in three years of hunting but today I found two. The first one (the eagle) rang up like a quarter on my AT pro and the second about a half mile away rang up like a penny. The eagle button has writing on the back but I can't make it out yet. Both have the shanks in tact. I'm very excited about these firsts for me. If anyone can offer any info about age or anything else I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for looking. To me , it looks like a early 1800 diplomatic button. What does it say on the back? Nice find:occasion14:

HI; The Eagle Button is WW1 Enlisted mans coa button. Value: $2. The second is a nice decorative coat button from 1890 - 1920. Value $0 ok. Hope this helps. PEACE:RONB

The army button says am button co Newark NJ on it and from what I can tell dates from 1902-1917. The other button has no marking I can make out which is frustrating because I would love to positively date it. Thanks for the help everyone. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1439089558.867996.jpg

Your eagle button is a "Great Seal" first issued in 1902. The early style button did not have a rim. It was added in 1910 so, according to the backmark your button would date between 1910 and 1917.

Cool. Would it be rare then since they only produced this particular version for 7 years? Anyone have any idea of value? I can't find the exact one anywhere online.
