I got out briefly Wednesday and Thursday last week for a little DIV tune up hunting. Wednesday I went to a spot where I have found about a dozen Large Cents, two Half Cents, buttons, musketballs, etc. I like to think there is small US silver coin hiding there, and since the dates on the other coins were 1812 to 1840, I like to think that silver coins is a Capped Bust half dime or dime Well, I had been hunting for about an hour with only a flat button to show for my efforts (I have pounded this site). I ranged out of the woods into the pasture where cows had eaten the grass down somewhat, and got a solid dime hit on my F75. I isolated the signal to a clump of dirt and saw the edge of a silver dime peeking out. I break the clump open and I'm staring at.....a 1914 barber dime! DAMN!! Oh well, I'll take it! I also found a 1909 V nickel nearby along with an unidentified pewter object.
Thursday we stopped briefly at a colonial site in PA on our way to Virginia for DIV. I was hunting in the cornfield when I got a strong signal reading 25-26 & Foil/Nickel on my F75. This type of signal could be a tombac button on a colonial site. The signal turned out to be this item which I think COULD BE a meteorite. It is very dense and heavy, but it is non-magnetic. It weighs 65.1 grams and it's maximum dimensions are 31.5 x 26.5 x 20.0 mm. I will post it on the meteorite forum and see what the experts think.
