Didn't feel like driving far today, so I hit the woods about a mile from my house. I've done these woods at least 25 times over the past few years, so I didn't expect much. But the ground is really saturated right now, so there's always hope for something old under those conditions.

I found jack squat for an hour, but then I got a 92 signal near the base of a tree. Didn't get excited because I figured it was an ox knob, since they ring up really high. Dug down about 7 inches and spotted something shiny! Out pops a 1943 Washington quarter! No way does a quarter ring up as a 92, so I knew he must have a friend in the hole. Sure enough, it was a 1941 Washington! Turned a bad day into a great one in the blink of an eye.

This was the first time I ever dug two silvers in one hole and the first time I ever found two silver quarters in one day. I'm sure I went over this spot before, but probably on a hot summer day when the ground was bone dry. Saturated ground can really get those deep coins popping!

Here's a couple of dirty and clean pics:

Nice find! I'm digging a lot of silver's in the woods too. Since I've pounded this area the last year, I 'm now concentrating on places that would be overgrown and impossible to get to in the summer. Good luck, there's always more out there to find.

That's a great point. The prickles and ferns haven't taken over these woods yet, so the hunting is much easier right now.

Beautiful condition, looks like they were probably dropped in the 1940s.

Great finds! I find a lot of Jack Squat myself. Still love swinging the Pro however, regardless of what I find... or don't find.

That's what I was thinking as well. Most of the silver Washingtons I see have a lot of wear on the hair and the eagle's chest. These boys look pretty good for being 74 and 76 years old!

This reminds me of the "good ole days". Back when finding one or two or even three or six silvers was the norm. Nowadays, we go out with the fervent hope of finding just ONE, single, solitary, silver coin in an all day hunt. :dontknow:

There are still places that will allow for many finds, the "good ole days" ain't over my friends. It's still out there!

Congrats on a successful find of the "good ole days". :)
