Got a pic of the front ? Marksmanship medal. I have one that's the same shape and also has an added rectangular badge like yours that was my dads. It's still in the original presentation box and the box is dated in the late 1920s.

Sorry, this one is 1/20 silver filled. It has "1/20 SILVER FILLED G.I." on the back of the cross. It also has the Bell Trading Post hallmark on the back?

I believe that qualification badge is Korean/ Vietnam War era, closer to Korean era I believe.
I quick search reveals the Metal Arts company was sold in 1968 to L&H Mfg. co., so,and the Bell's Trading Post marked ones were around in the '50's.

Holy Cow! Thank you for the methodology and answer. I was wondering if that mark was bell trading post. I am glad I bought it for $1

Got mine in the late 80s. Didn't think the Army ever handed out sterling badges.

Yep, most of the qualification badges for rifle, pistol, infantry were sterling for a while. Got mine in 86. Alas, not sterling.

Here are the ones that were my dads. The box is dated 1924 and is marked "Silver". The darker colored medal is marked Sterling on the back. The lighter colored one is unmarked. They are both Coast Artillery medals. Hope this helps settle the argument on whether or not they were ever made of Silver.
