I've been hunting two different lots/scrapes and finding a lot of unrecognizable stuff. If I can't easily clean it to determine what it is, it goes in the tumbler. Well much to my surprise, out comes this brass U.S. button or whatever it is. At this point i'm not even sure which lot it came from. However, I have a suspicion it's the same lot I found that barber dime at. If you can help identify the era and use of the brass item i would really appreciate it. Thanks for looking!

What you've got is actually an Army collar disc, yours is the "Type 3" and would date from 1937 to 1943, although many were still in use after that date.

Thanks for the info! Not as old as I hoped but still a nice surprise find.
