Maybe the post is relevant, especially at this time.
I think Canada was the first country ever to release a circulating coin that was coloured. This one was given to me by a Canadian friend in 2004. I also understand that this was also dubbed 'the conspiracy coin', due to the red centre poppy. Seems far-fetched but I remember something about the US Secret Service saying that every coin could be satellite tracked because of an embedded microchip.

Just another example of paranoia ... or was this the case. No offence meant.
