Under the floor boards in the attic

So I've been living in this house for about a year now and today something told me to give the attic a closer look so I grabbed a flashlight and went up to see what I could find. I had always thought the house was built around the 20's it's a 4 square style with a cool 4 window attic in NEPA. All the floors are original hardwood but there are places where the boards were tore up for electrical work. Nothing was sitting there in the open for me to find but when I shined the light under the floor and peaked my head in I started finding some truly amazing things. First was a medal from the 1911 reunion of the elk lodge in Atlantic City. Then an old navy button and an amazing 45 star American flag! It's 55 by 34 inches and I want to get it framed to preserve it asap (any thoughts on value would be appreciated though it won't be sold). Then a pack of smokes and some amazing hand painted signs the last of which had a note from the original homeowner to his wife on the back which best I can tell must be over 100 years old and explains that he sold hand painted signs to local businesses. It was a great day found a ton of history about the people who used to call my house home. Any opinions or insight is appreciated, thanks. Cool discovery.... someone was trying to hide the fact that they smoked maybe with the pack of Chesterfields. and/or a survival pack..Congrats on all the recoveries..

Wow those are some awesome recoveries. It definitely pays to poke around in unusual spots ....

Big Congrats on a home attic hunt , I lived in a couple of 100+ year old mining camps , I made some of my best finds in attic's and crawl spaces , including my own attic that produced much local history. Again a big congrats on a GREAT hunt , you made me drool !

I just noticed an attic upstairs. Tiny little access point in the ceiling, when I went to open it, tons of dust fell on the ground. I am a little scared to open it right now, going to wait until I have time to bring a ladder. Also around 500-750 square feet of crawlspace under the living room, barely three feet tall. You are making me very tempted to check these areas out!!

Stop posting those amazing finds, I am going to get hantavirus from going up in my roof if you keep urging me to go with all those finds lol! You are a very lucky man having so much history to be found under your floor! :notworthy:

On a serious not, I can't wait to see what you find next! Awesome thread!

This inspired me! Just did a quick check this afternoon and found some sheet music from 1924 under the floorboards in my attic. I'm out of town now but going to do a more extensive search when I get back home!

Way better than the mummified squirrel carcasses that we found in our old house haha. Congrats on those awesome finds!

Congrats on such interesting treasure finds in your attic. Thanks for sharing

Yes it's a period 45 star flag. Getting it framed next week.
