I was scuba hunting a couple of days ago. I was down for a about 30 minutes can back up and police sheriff boat was parked up to mine. He told me someone had least this whole area and was trying to find a shipwreck. He also told me I had to go about 5 miles either way to get out of the least which I think was bs which is why I'm posting this. Does anyone knows where I could find a list of underwater leases in the east coast of Florida down to the keys so I well not get pulled again. Thanks

How much does it cost to lease? Does the person who leases the area hire the police or do they hang out seeking violators?

They are not hired. It's their job to stop people from looting. Almost all of the beach from the power plant in ft pierce to bonsteel park in Sebastian are leased to Queens Jewels 1715, Brent Brisben is who you would contact. The information is on his website.

Police officers know who is supposed to be on the leases. Also, it's pretty easy to spot someone metal detecting from a boat. Really easy. They usually do safety stops and check for wildlife violations. However, they will arrest on site people illegally salvaging in a leased area, or any area for that matter without the proper paperwork.

It's easy to become an investor on one of the boats already working, but you can put your own operation together as well. It's hardwork because most treasure is found using propwash deflectors not just blindly roaming reefs. It seems easy, but it's not at all. In fact it's very dangerous and people can die.

Happy hunting.
Eric

Diverjon, what beach were you off of?I have charts from the state of florida that show where all the boundries are for all the leases on the east coast.

You are lucky to get off with just a warning from the water cop.he could have arrested you and whoever was with you and impounded your boat, trailer and all your gear including your truck and a warrant could be had to search your house and whatever other property you own or rent. You can be charged with theft from the state, leaseholders and for disturbing the bottom.Companies that own leases and the state of florida dont take to kndly to people that break the law.Ignorance of the treasure laws is no excuse.

Yes i realize, he was a nice officer and just told me to leave but how far I had to leave is what I was wondering about. I am located In between the west palm beach inlet and boca raton inlet.

How does the lease affect shore diving.....assuming you had access to the ocean from the shore, where does the lease start?
How/where does one find out about leases.......

Most leases start at the shoreline at high tide and low tide. And can go all the way out to the 3 mile limit. Most of the fisher/brisben leases go out 3000 yards or 1.7 miles. You can call or email the state BAR and request a copy of the active and inactive lease areas for the entire state of florida.Good luck with this request as i have been trying to do this the last 3 months with no response from any of them at talahassel.I just wanted a updated list as i have one from a few years ago.

High tide and low tide?
A lease starts at the average low tide mark..at least that's what I've always known to be the case.
How would the Florida antiquity laws effect this kind of thing?
I can't imagine anyone would be scuba diving for recently dropped items.. and the bottom basically belongs to the state.
The way the law is worded I think it would be a violation to pull a clam from the bottom... not to mention a 1963 penny.

Here is my copy of the lease areas on the east coast. As you can see, almost the whole east coast from Cape Canaveral to Miami is leased to someone.

I copied and pasted this list of the "Fisher leases" from a post of Wreckdiver1715's from 2007. I have no knowledge of anything more current.

I can't believe that. That's insane. Now if all that land is leased then why don't I get pulled over and checked more then just that one time?

How often have you been metal detecting between the low tide line and the 3 mile limit? Had any luck?

There are people that live on the beach and know lease holders and know what boats they use.If they see other boaters out there with divers they make phone calls either to the lease holders or the water cops.More so when they see divers go in and out of the water with metal detectors from the beach or water.Several contractors that work the fisher/brisben leases LIVE on the beach.
