Decided to head back to the 1800's homestead site were I was attacked by yellow jackets while barrel roll detecting the field a couple weeks ago. Game plan was to avoid the bee's nest and explore some new areas. Lots of hacking and rolling, but not a single good target after 90 min, so headed to the main site and location of the bees. Saw a big hole and my initial thought was, man could I really have left such a huge hole unfilled? ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508718462.475573.jpg So I went over to inspect the hole and noticed chunks of honey comb everywhere. (Zoom in) Some possum, raccoon, honey badger or possibly black bear totally took care of the bee problem for me. This lead to some nice targets.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508718613.935942.jpg The little domed button with pattern and the one with a lot of gilt were nice. Here is the other handful of oldies.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508718799.670348.jpg Complete but mangled suspender buckle, miners-farmer tag, knob thingy, mouse steering wheel. Only one coin today and it was on the surface, detected the mid tone, swept the leaves with my pinpointer and it was there. Hard to believe potentially sitting there for 150 years.. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508719036.602342.jpg I could see the Roman numeral III and having found another one about 100 feet away at this site I new it was another 3 Cent Nickel! This guy was a bit rough vs my first 3 Center, so decided to make it look like a proper nickel. Vinegar/Peroxide bath.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508719300.960920.jpg Here it is.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508721414.868638.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508721427.388434.jpg I'm reading 186X. Here they are. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508721522.190958.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1508721534.363383.jpg

I've found a number of War Nickels, a buffalo, a Shield Nickel and a half dime, but never a V Nickel, but see them posted all the time. Strange how this hobby goes.

Good luck out there!

Mouse steering wheel, lol! Your nickel is totally awesome.

Amazing finds! Congrats!! I would love to find one of those 3 cent nickels.

Indeed finding two III cent Nickels seems "odd" but, hey that's COOL! You and I would have one heck of a lot of fun I believe rampaging through brush looking for that ONE WOW find! LOL! Very nice relics along with another great old coin find. Keep on Rollin' my friend.:occasion14:

I love it when nature lends a hand in justice! Hope the stings are healed too.
GREAT job on the finds as well...

Hate yellowjackets, had my encounters, would love to step on a "nest" of 3 cent coins though. Have never found one. Nice

Very nice results for going back to the hive site, congrats on the your second 3 cent piece.

Great finds. Might have been a skunk that made a meal of those yellowjackets. In any event, that one nest is gone for sure.

Thx man! One cool target makes my day for sure. I love it when one the first targets is a bucket lister, then I feel more at ease exploring some new areas. This 3 center came at the end. That's my constant dilemma when I'm heading out on a hunt, do I go to a site that has produced in the past, but targets are getting scarce, or do I scout out some new areas. This particular site is so rough that it's going to take dozens of visits to get to all the areas that look promising, sort of like your recent field.

Nice III...people don't realize ...those are one of the rarest coins to find - ive seen more "tree" coins than I have 3c nickels in my 40+ yrs of detecting

Mouse steering wheel is just like a '40 Ford steering wheel!

Congrats on another 3 cent nickel.

Nice hunt Thad. You will find your V Nickels, I have probably dug 20 of them. But will I ever find a nickel three center?

I detected a fairgrounds that yielded around 200 coins from the era of the 3 cent nickel including shield nickels, 3 cent silvers and dozens of seated. Not one 3 cent nickel. They just didnt circulate long or in many places I guess.
