That's what we call an anvil stone or more commonly a nutting stone. Indian artifact for sure, I just found one yesterday.

Thanks SoIll, I thought it looked like it could be something, I only found three of these oval round stones in this field, all other stones were flint type not smooth and round, I figured they were brought to this area, all three were about 10 feet from each other. Thanks again, I am trying to learn a little about artifacts, and there is no better place than this forum. JYD

You have a hammer, congrats.
Notice the side, it has two striking platforms that form a ridge in the middle.
The pit could be the result of its use as a nutting stone or hammer as well.
Those are exactly the kind of things to look for in hammers., Nice
