I dug this brass or copper hand tool at about six inches deep, in the yard of a 19th century home, but the area has been settled since colonial times. I can't figure out what the item might be, but one suggestion was that it was used to make fishing nets. I found it in the town of Cambridge Md. Can anyone help me identify it? It's about the size of a half dollar. tool1.jpeg tool2.jpeg

Interesting thought, don't know. One idea I have is a button hole puller for vests, or heavy coats. The yard I found it in is right next to a very old church.

Thanks for the welcome. This is my first post and I guess I originally had it in the wrong section. I'm not new to metal detecting however, as I have been doing it for about 25 years, and it never loses its appeal.
