Picked this one up today. Too cute to pass up. Any ideas about the maker? It has a mark underneath I just can't quite make it out. Looks like FEB 2 1975 PA
Can't make out the date from the pics. That flathead screw makes me think it's older than the 70s though. Nice find!
I pick those up, when I can find them. Most of the reproductions use phillips screws and rubber coin stoppers. From your pictures, yours appears to be authentic. That bolt through the center appears to be galvanized and that process has been in use for over a hundred years. If the bolt is stainless, then it's post WWII.
This is a reproduction piece made in the 80's . It shows no age and is way to clean to be a actual period piece . I sold these and many others like cast iron door stops with a good buddy years ago at flea markets . Casted in India or Pakistan and were never met to fool buyers but as decoration pieces . I still see them a lot at a majority of flea markets I travel too .
It's a shame that these type of pieces became so popular that way but they did . The odds of it not being original are about 99.7 % , most of the real ones have been discovered and the majority of the real ones where scrapped during metal drives in WW1 and WW2 . IMHO , Woodstock
