-UPDATE- Flying Eagle Penny--Beginners Luck.

A member asked if one of my indian head pennies was a flying eagle. I was not sure what that was and found it in the red book. I also found a date on it 1858. I posted a couple of new photos of it. I drew an arrow indicating the 5 in the 1858.
TY very much.

I have been metal detecting for about two months. Joined a local club near my town who have instilled in me the do's and don't of metal detecting. I noticed an area that could be detected, but you have to cross over a national historical site to get to it. So metal detector in hand I approached the authorities of the site. Right away he said "Ohe no!!! No way!!! No no no!!!!. I quickly said I understand the laws but wanted to ask if I could detect on the area that was only reachable by crossing over the historical grounds. He then said "I am a hunter(animal) and understand your passion, so go ahead." To be honest I think he said yes because I had my finacee with me. Getting permission was well worth it. Hear is what I have found after returning several times. The military buttons are from the war of 1812. Light Artillery, 1st regiment.
1 Seated Liberty, with stars, but no date (1850'sh)
5 indian head pennies. One 1860 another 1862
1 silver three cent piece, no date worn as necklace.
6 V nickels
12 Buffalo Head nickels
12 Mercury dimes
3 Barber Dimes
Miscellanous cufflinks, buckles and a early 1900's HEAD HOUSE luggage tag.
I am hooked

Re: Beginners Luck.

So you are saying that you used your fiancee to obtain permission to dig all that stuff. And you've only been detecting two months. You are learning fast, my young Jedi Knight. Crazy stuff dere!

Re: Beginners Luck.

I had visited the spot about a dozen times TommyNJ. Everytime I go back more artifacs keep popping up. TY Tank. Your right curbdigger, I cought on to the Fiancee' trick after it happened. I'm sure if I was alone he wouldn't have been so accepting. I suspect I was the first too swing a coil over the area also. The area I found all the old coins, there wasn't any new coins. It was crazy exciting.

Re: Beginners Luck.

My Fiancee' is cracking up Billybudd. Went back to the site today and am now covering the water. I bought a used whites pulse diver from a fellow club member. Had a wet suit on and am finding tons of new change. I went on the section of beach that is used. I found $4 dollars in change, a cuff link and some kind of button.
Ty all.
