Hello!

Our club outing was today ~ we received permission to hunt the grounds around Western Oregon University in Monmouth. We had a pretty good time! The rain held off until the hunt was over. After the outing Ron and I stopped for a bite to eat in Corvallis and by then the rain let up so we decided to detect for a while longer. Here's what I dug today:

1917 Walking Liberty Half
11 wheat cents dating from 1917 to 1957
13 clad quarters
18 clad dimes
6 modern nickels
59 memorial cents

Also, I dug a SALEM FIRE DEPT badge! I think its nickel or silver plate over copper, and 1.5 inches square. There's no writing on the back side. I wonder how old it is?!

I took pic's of the half dollar and badge before and after I cleaned them up. This Half dollar is my silver coin find #147 for the year!

THANKS for looking!
Neil

The fire dept badge looks like a hat badge, not a shirt badge. Nice find, that's always been one of the finds on the top of my wish list being I'm a retired firefighter.

Glad the rain held off 'til after the hunt. Congratulations
on silver #147. That 1917 Walker is real sweet and so is
the Salem FD badge.

It's nice to find any Walker, let alone an older one, but that FD badge is a beaut!

I am kinda new to this. Every time I come here and see the stuff you people are finding I am just amazed!

Heard the catch phrase here is "DIG'EM ALL!"

Luck everybody and Merry Christmas

Have you ever targeted around old fire houses?

Salem Oregon. Is that near you?

Yeah, I actually live in Eugene . . . which is about 60 miles south of Salem. But where I found the badge (Monmouth) is only about 15 miles from Salem.
