Using a B.H Lonestar to search a river?

I just moved and my new apartment is right next to a river. I've never used my m.d (Bounty Hunter Lone Star) in water before and don't even know if it's waterproof. Has anyone ever done this? Any pointers for searching in water? What size coil is best for this 4in, 8in, 10in?

the coil should be waterproof if it has no cracks of any kind in it---do not take the control box in the water it will kill it ----seal the spot were wire goes into coil with waterproof sealer ---do not get water in the control box period---shallow water only so you don't trip fall and drop it in ---BH'ers can get unstable some times around water areas---so remember to turn "down" the power/sen and trun "up"up the disc.this often will settle them down a bit but no more than is need to settle it as it cause a bit of depth loss--(its a trade off)---do not allow the water to run back up the shaft into the housing by laying it flat keep it up right for a good bit till your sure theres no water in the shaft --good hunt and good luck ---Ivan
