Can you all tell me how you are getting max depth out of the 705? Ive been taking my 705 and Sov Elite to some beaches and cannot get the 705 to give me the depth Im getting with the Sov, and I mean by 3 or more inches. I have the 10" Tornado on the Elite, 10.5" 7.5khz freq coil on the 705 so coil wise I think that's a proper match. I wanna use the 705 more, its just plain lighter to swing, but the Sov is beaten the heck out of it in depth and also correct ID.
It figures Minelab has stopped making such a great detector. Would love to see the Sov guts in an Xterra housing:occasion14:

I think that if I were strictly beach hunting with an Xterra, I'd have two or three of the four available 18.75kHz coils for it.

Ive got two, the small 6" one and the 5X10 elliptical. I took the elliptical off as it doesn't get the depth the one I have on it now. Im not gonna get the larger coiltek, swung that thing in the past and just to much for me anymore. I have thought of trying one of the nel coils.
Ive tried all different sens settings and on almost all the beaches can run it at 30 which is wide open, always noise cancel and ground balance properly. MOst are freshwater beaches.

I would be surprised if the 5x10" got much more depth than the 6" . Actually either the 9" CC or 10.5" DD HF coils would be the deepest and most sensitive to gold excluding the 15".
And I need to correct myself. There are five HF coils available.

Questions:
A) Is Tracking ON or OFF?
B) Beach Tracking ON?

I haven't tried the tracking yet so its off and same with the beach tracking. At the salt beaches Ive been to Ive only been into the dry sand. I will try the tracking next time out and will use the beach tracking next time into wet sand at the salt beaches.

Bolt a 13" Ultimate on the Elite and you'll be amazed at how light and deep seeking it is.

thanks Fletch. I know some of the aftermarket coils can really bring a detector to life.

I've tried 13" Ultimate and 15" WOT. The wot is a good coil but just too heavy for my taste without a harness (which I hate wearing on the beach) The 13" is perfect size to weight ratio IMO. You can order a black one from overseas, with 2-3 week delivery time. I couldn't seem to find anything but white here in the states. It just feel like the perfect balance on the machine.

Im wondering what that coil might do for the Xterra or even my AT gold.

With the Xterra you have a choice of 12 coils, none of which are redundant. You can change the entire character of the machine with a coil swap.

You should check out the blog article that Randy Horton wrote.
